Social media has been weird—well, weirder—ever since the death of Twitter. Those of us who have moved on from X have been forced to search out our friends on on some combination of Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads, and while there's some hope that all these services will eventually be joined together in the Fediverse, right now they're only kind of connected. The result: A lot of us are spending time putting out the same post on all three services.
Enter Croissant. This sleek iPhone app, by indie developers Aaron Vegh and Ben McCarthy, can connect to Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads simultaneously, allowing you to post to all sites at once. The idea for the app was born out of McCarthy's annoyance at the process of crossposting (relatable).
"I have been finding it very frustrating trying to duplicate posts across different social networks," McCarthy said. "Especially when adding images and alt text, it results in a lot of copying and pasting, and hunting through the photo picker to find the same images again and again."
Croissant allows you to draft a post, add images, and even enter alt text, and send it off to all three services all at once. There's also support for creating threaded posts simultaneously on all three platforms—just tap the three dots in the bottom right corner, tap "Add to Thread," and continue posting. If that's too cumbersome for you, you can also swipe left while writing a post to create the next post in the thread. This method lets you draft the entire thread before sending all of it to all three networks at once—something that would otherwise be a painstaking process of copying, pasting, and replying to your own posts.
Croissant isn't a social media application itself: The app does not connect your accounts to allow you to browse or respond to others' posts—you'll still have to do that via opening each individual social app. The idea is simply to reduce the amount of work it takes to post three places at once.
Croissant starts at $2.99 per month, or you can pay $19.99 per year or a one-time fee of $59.99. That's probably too much for casual posters, granted—McCarthy says the intended audience is really small business owners and creators "who use social media professionally, but is not their full time job." If that's you, and you're already frustrated with spending too much time crossposting, it's worth investigating.
Alternatively, consider enabling the Fediverse integration on Threads so Mastodon users can follow your account there, or connecting your Mastodon and Bluesky accounts. (Like I said: the current era of social media is kind of messy).
