Pixel Owners, Update Your Phones Now
Following the discovery of a number of high-profile Android exploits, Google has released a new Android 14 security update. The latest version of the
Amazon Prime Day is here, alongside new deals on phones both Android and iOS. Old favorites are marked down alongside some of the most recent models, and you’ll even find folding phones. Whether you get your phone from Apple, Samsung, or Google, there’s something for you here.
iPhones rarely go on sale from third parties, so selection is a bit tighter here than with Android phones. Still, you can save a few hundred bucks if you’re fine with older models. Just note that Apple Intelligence is currently only pegged for the iPhone 15 Pro and up.
iPhone 13: Best Buy is currently selling the iPhone 13 with 128GB of storage starting at $449, down from $629. You’ll need to pay $579 to buy it unlocked as opposed to connected to a carrier, but it’s still a deal compared to the minimum $599 you’d have to spend to buy from Apple.
iPhone 14: Similar to the iPhone 13, Best Buy’s iPhone 14 deal offers a 128GB iPhone 14 starting at $504, down from $729. Like the iPhone 13, the unlocked version costs a bit more at $654, but it’s still cheaper than the $699 minimum at Apple.
iPhone 14 Plus: Wrapping up Best Buy’s iPhone deals is the iPhone 14 Plus, the bigger screen cousin to the iPhone 14 that’s otherwise identical aside from battery life. It starts at $604, down from $829, although you’ll need to pay $754 for the unlocked version. The iPhone 14 Plus starts at $799 when buying from Apple.
Samsung has some of the most generous offers for Prime Day, including discounts on current generation phones
Samsung Galaxy S24/S24+/S24 Ultra: All three models of Samsung’s current-generation S24 Galaxy are on sale at Amazon right now, with the base model costing $599 (down from $799), the bigger screen + model costing $749 (down from $999), and the top-of-the-line Ultra costing $1,049 (down from $1,419). Even better, they all come unlocked.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5/ZFlip 5: Samsung’s last-generation foldables are both on sale, making the markup you pay for a folding screen a bit more bearable. While these aren’t Samsung’s latest folding phones, they still have fold flat designs and Galaxy AI. The Z Fold 5 starts at $1,149 (down from $1,799) and the Z Flip 5 starts at $579 (down from $999).
Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: If you’re fine with an older generation of phone, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 FE is also on sale, bringing the S23’s specs as cheap as they can get without compromises. You’ll still get 128GB of storage and even Galaxy AI here, so there’s plenty to love.
Like Samsung, Google’s got generous sales on even current generation models ready for Prime Day, even on its Pixel Fold.
Google Pixel 8a/8/8 Pro: All models of Google’s current-generation Pixel 8 are on sale, from the budget-oriented 8a to the premium 8 Pro. They all come unlocked, although certain AI features are only available on the Pro. The Pixel 8a costs $449 (down from $499), the 8 costs $499 (down from $699), and the 8 Pro costs $759 (down from $1,059).
Google Pixel Fold: Google’s first generation foldable has a pretty hefty discount for Prime day, down to $1,199 from $1,799. It comes unlocked and sports 256GB of storage, although its specs are slightly behind the 8 Pro.
Google Pixel 7a/Pixel 7 Pro: Most of the last-generation Pixel 7 series are on sale as well, although the base Pixel 7 somehow seems to be going strong without a discount at most stores. You’re better off with the Pixel 7a, down to $249 from $499, or the Pixel 7 Pro, down to $419 from $899.
